Additional Services

Editing/Proofreading

As with any translation, we will discuss with the client the intended use or purpose of the translation, target audience/country, and any other pertinent information. We will then assign the appropriate native speaking editor for the job.

Another example of employing our editing/proofreading services is when a client who has had a document translated in-house or perhaps from another vendor and is looking to have the translation reviewed and edited for accuracy, style and overall correctness.

The goal here is to ensure that the translation is true to the source language document and adheres to the client’s objectives. An example is a public relations firm that has chosen to translate a press release from English into Spanish on behalf of its client. The firm understands that their in-house translation was done by a non-professional translator and thus requires the trained eye of qualified editor/translator.

In addition to editing, we offer proofreading services that involve a less detailed review of the content of a translation. In this case, we will check spelling and grammar and also ensure that no original text was left out in the original translation process.

Document Screening

It is common for a client to receive a large quantity of documents in one or more foreign languages for a project, but only certain/specific documents require translation. The volume of documents can be delivered to our offices for review or we will send the appropriate language-specific reviewer(s) to your offices to go over the documents and ‘flag’ the materials that contain the precise subject matter that you have indicated you want translated.

For example, a law firm receives 10 banker’s boxes of German and Japanese documents relating to a patent infringement litigation and the attorneys working on the case are only interested at the moment in documents pertaining to the specifications of the patent and perhaps related communications. Our translators will identify those specific documents requiring translation, saving the law firms’ client time and money.

Transcription

Transcription is the conversion into written, typewritten or printed form, of a spoken language source, such as the proceedings of a court hearing.

Audio and/or video tape transcription and translation involves a couple of simple steps, based on what you have in hand. For example, if you have an audio tape (standard or micro size) of a speech that’s in French and you want an English translation, the steps for this assignment include:

1. Assigning one of our French speaking transcription specialists to transcribe the speech, thus giving you a hard copy version of the French speech;

2. We then assign the appropriate lead translator to translate the speech into English, and the standard translation process continues.

Foreign Language Desktop Publishing (FLDTP)

This service requires skilled specialists with expertise in the typesetting [Page layouts with text, graphics, photos and other visual elements] of foreign language documentation into specific design layout software programs. Language Innovations can provide full turnkey service, providing both the translation and FLDTP of your product.

With translation in hand, our FLDTP personnel will work within your application to create a publication that mirrors the source product in the desired language. Keep in mind that the particular foreign language may affect the layout of the document. The expansion or contraction of text may require adjusting type size and/or line spacing (leading) to ensure a page-for-page likeness. For some projects, a page-for-page likeness is not a practical option due to the expansion of text and original document layout, and in such cases, reflowing of the pagination will be recommended and discussed with you. Software applications that we support include QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, PageMaker and many others.

We can deliver output for both PC and Mac. Depending on your applications font set support it might be recommend that we provide you a (high-resolution) PDF for printing purposes. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew and Arabic are examples of languages whose font sets are not supported by most standard applications and require specific character sets.

Abstracting

An abstract is a brief summary of a research article, thesis, review, conference proceeding or any in-depth analysis of a particular subject or discipline, and is often used to help the reader quickly ascertain the paper's purpose.

As it relates to translation, should you have a document in one language and are interested in learning the gist of the document in another language, but you do not want or need a complete translation, we will have a translator provide a general abstract translation of the document. Based on the size of the original, abstracts range in length from a paragraph to several pages.

ANOVA Translations, LLC has a policy in place to keep the content of all translations, communications and all other forms of interaction between ANOVA Translations, LLC and its clients strictly confidential.

Upon request, we will enter into a confidentiality agreement with our customers and will work within the guidelines you or the organization you represent might request. Generally, our signed agreements include the sample text you see below:

For any work performed that is in or of the public domain ANOVA Translations, LLC may not be restricted by this policy if legally compelled. ANOVA Translations, LLC will not disclose its customers or customer list without prior written approval of its client(s).

Archiving / Document Management:

ANOVA Translations, LLC has a policy to maintain and keep on file all hard and soft copies of materials, including translations, emails, original documents, notes and all other paperwork relating to each project, for a minimum of 90 days. After 90 days we cannot guarantee access to or copies of the above-mentioned materials. Upon written request ANOVA Translations, LLC will return, destroy, delete, etc., any and all materials relating to your project(s).

Liability

ANOVA Translations, LLC limits its liability to the invoiced cost of any and all services provided by ANOVA Translations, LLC to its clients. The total liability ANOVA Translations, LLC has for any particular translation, interpretation, transcription or any other service is limited up to the actual invoiced amount for that particular assignment.
